Extra Help is federal. Medicaid and Medicare Savings Programs are state. If you already have one of those, you may already have Extra Help. If not, apply at Social Security, then use your state desk below.

Already on Medicaid?

Full Medicaid, SSI, or a Medicare Savings Program usually means Extra Help is automatic. Confirm with SSA if a January letter looks wrong, then compare plans with the Extra Help prices.

Apply with SSA

Use the Extra Help application any day of the year. Call 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) if you want to apply by phone.

Ask the state

Medicare Savings Programs can pay the Part B premium and open Extra Help. Those applications go to your state Medicaid agency—not to ThriftMeds.
